Angela/Hodgins - Working Late - PG

Working Late
Angela/Hodgins
PG

He doesn't ever remember Angela staying this late before. She's always the first one out the door, never skipping out on work, just ready to leave when the day is done. But there she is, at her desk, the last one left in the lab and looking like she doesn't plan on leaving any time soon. Jack hovers in the doorway, not sure of what to say or do, or even if he should make his presence known. For now he's content to watch the way such tedious work can become magic when she does it.

"I'm just killing time, you know." She says suddenly, her back still to him. "Is it sad that I have nothing better to do on a friday night than work on this stuff?" She takes a deep breath and swivels around in her chair to face him.

"It's not sad if you've got company and...I'm just now leaving." He offers with a grin, pleased when she smiles back. "It doesn't make you a freak if your dedicated to your job." Angela just looks at him knowingly and he ducks his head nervously. "Okay, well It kind of does if you do what we do."

Angel sighs and begins switching of monitors and lights. "I love late hours, I really do. The fact that I know we're helping people makes it all seem worth it, but I just...I just don't want to become so involved that I don't have time for anything...anyone else."

"Time for who?" He asks. Watching her lovingly close down her workspace shouldn't be so cute, but it is. She finally makes her way toward him and he catches himself immediately straightening from his slouch. He mentally curses Zach as he realizes he does try to make himself look taller around her.

"Someone special." She says softly, meeting his gaze and reaching past him to turn off the lights.

The room's suddenly plunged into darkness, the only light coming in from the hallway is casting an otherworldly glow around them. Jack can see the slight sparkle in her eyes and he knows he was right to think of magic when he saw her.

"Well..." He takes a deep breath, inhaling the faint scent of her perfume...and when exactly had she gotten so close to him? Whatever he planned on saying, something profound he was sure of it, vanished from his mind as they stood there in the dim light.

It didn't matter.

She tugged on the sleeve of his lab coat and tilted her head slightly. "C'mon. Walk me to my car."
